Armenians have overcome one in a series of hurdles which has prevented the Armenian genocide of 191523 from taking Its correct place in history. The question of what occurred in Ottoman Turkey between 1915 and 1923 has been studied and reviewed thoughout this century. Because of delicate relations with Turkey. members of the United States Government and the Department of State have concluded that the deportation and murder of Armenians was a tragic event of which they see no value in characterizing. However. the United Nations has decided to take a different approach to the issue. In late August. a United Nations Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities accepted for consideration a report on the crimes of genocide.
