Speech #990082324

And half of them would move here tomorrow if they could. and I wish we could handle them. We are a compassionate people and we are a concerned people. I know what is written on the Statue of Liberty. but I also know when that was written. It was at a time when the West was not settled. and we desperately needed immigrants. But that time has passed. The West Is settled. We have 8.1 million people in our country who are out of work. people who are looking for Jobs. America has changed. I think It is time that we respond to those who cry out for jobs. those who want a fair shake. those who want a chance to build a home for their families.
