Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990082184

Mr. President. I want to indicate that I fully support the objectives of the amendment offered by Senators HART and LEVIN. I also share the view of Senator SIMPSON that it is an extremely complex issue which came up late in the last Congress and helped to stall the conference committees consideration of the immigration bill. Its full implications could not be determined. Thats why joint hearings have been scheduled. at my and several Senators request. next week. I regret we had to begin consideration of this bill before we got the benefit of these hearingsbut they are scheduled. and we will have the benefit of their results before final action on this legislation is taken by the House conference committee.
