Since coming to Congress I have had the pleasure of knowing Rabbi Kraus of Temple Beth Ami. West Covina. CA. He is well respected and admired by the community and the people of Temple Beth Ami. Rabbi Kraus was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary at Budapest. Hungary. and received his Ph.D. from the University of Budapest. During the Second World War. after the Germans occupied Hungary in March. 1944. he was deported with his congregation by the Nazis to Auschwitz and later. Buchenwald. Although he was exempt from the antiJewish laws because of his fatheis extensive military service. he chose to go and be with his congregants.
