As the Jews in the Soviet Union face increasingly grim acts of oppression and obstacles to their goal of emigration. it Is critical that Congress act to further their cause. The plight of Soviet Jews commands our attention now more than ever. Last month. emigration reached an all time low. Only 36 of the hundreds of thousands of Jews waiting to leave were released by the Soviet Government. These figures are representative of the downward trend weve seen since 1979 when 51.000 Jews were allowed to leave the Soviet Union.
