Mr. Speaker. 6 months have gone by in 1985. and the sad plight of the Jews of the Soviet Union has not improved during that time. They are still being incarcerated in jails and prison camps. they are still being denied permission to emigrate. they still face the loss of families and careers for simply expressing the desire to be free. and they are still being prevented from practicing the religion of their ancestors. Their total assimilation into Soviet society is becoming a reality. jeopardizing the future of Jews and Judaism in the Soviet Union. For these reasons. I rise to join my colleagues in this special order on the plight of Soviet Jewry.
