Zachor was a university professor in physics. In lMarch of 1984. as the gentleman from .exas told us. he was i.rrested and charged with defaming the Soviet state. After demonstrating in Moscow with Tatyana for their right to emigrate to Israel. this is all they did. When we visited with Tatyana in Leningrad. she told us that her husband was being held in a Riga prison and virtually no comminication with his wife and friends was allowed. In April be began a hunger strike to protest the refusal of prison authorities to give him paper and pencil so that he could write to Soviet authorities about his case. Tatyana has been harrassed and all her documents. including her passport. were stolen from her in a street attack. Still she and her husband remain committed to their goal of emigrating to Israel. Yakov Rabinovitzthe gentleman from Texas talked about him at length. I am not going to repeat that.
