Pa. The club started as a dream in 1922 at a meeting of Lodge 309 of the Croation Fraternal Union. the Bessemer Clubs ancestral organization. and It took 13 years of fundraising to accomplish its goal: on June 18. 1935. the Bessemer Croation Club was incorporated. Initially operating out of a members home. the club served as a community center for the numerous immigrants from Yugoslavia who came to America to work in the quarries and brickyards of Bessemer. The club also served Immigrants from Poland. Slovenia. Czechoslovakiathe former segments of the AustrianGerman Empireand the region of Croatia. which no longer exists under that territorial name.
