Among the tonguetwisters were the words "cinerous." "amaranthine." "quixotism." "schadenfreude." "thanatophidia." and "onomatopoeia." Still. the finalists would not capitulate When all was said and done. the final winner was an 11yearold fifthgrader from Seymour Christian School by the name of Laurie Admiraal. who will be coming to Washington. DC. to represent our community in the national finals this June. The winning word. by the way. was "densitometer"-a word now wellknown to Grand Rapids area schoolchildren. In second place was Robert Tyson. a 14yearold eighthgrader at City MiddleHigh School. And in third place was Lundi Seng. a 13yearold Cambodian refugee. Lundi is an eighthgrader at Millbrook Christian School. and has lived in this country only 4 years. She saw her parents killed by the Communists in Viet Nam. and fled to our country knowing not a single word of English.
