I am one of those MexicanAmericans who has been denied entry into a restaurant. who has been told that he must get his hair cut somewhere else. In my lifetime. the term "wetback" has been used on me. I am a thirdgeneration American. And yet. because of the way I look and speak. crossing the border from Mexico to the United States is a little more diffcult than if I were white. I dare say I have a better sense of the volume of illegal immigration across the river in the part of the world I know best. Just as Im sure Mr. Simcox is more of an authority on electoral procedures in Indiana than I am.
