I rise today to participate in the 1985 Congressional Call to Conscience on Soviet Jewry. an effort which has been in existence since 1976 and which serves to chronicle and bring worldwide attention to the rights of Jews in the Soviet Union. I thank Senator RUDY BoscHWITZ for his tireless effort in coordinating this years Call to Conscience and the Unior) of Councils for Soviet Jews and the .4ational Conference for Soviet Jewry for their fine work on behalf of Soviet Jews. Those oppressed people on whose behalf I speak today seek only the opportunity to worship in the way that they choose. and to emigrate to their homeland. Israel. The crackdown in recent months on Hebrew teachers and cultural activists has not inspired hope in the Jewish communities in such cities as Moscow.
