Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990013985

Mr. Speaker. today I am introducing a bill known as the "Amerasian Children Relief Act of 1985." This bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide preferential treatment in the admission of Amerasian childrenthat is. those children parented by U.S. citizensand who have been or will be adopted by Americans. Mr. Speaker. 2 years ago Congress attempted to address the plight of the Amerasians by passing what became Public Law 97359. This laudable piece of legislation has not however. met the need and the need is indeed compelling. In Vietnam alone estimates run as high as 20.000 Amerasians remaining and some estimate put the figure even higher.
