I had the pleasure of cohosting a highranking delegation of Soviet leaders in Austin. TX. last week. As in the past. I took the opportunity to raise the issue of Jewish emigration and our Governments concern about the radical decrease in numbers of Jews allowed to leave the Soviet Union. The response was the same: that in effect there is no Jewish emigration problem. The Soviet leadership there simply said: "There is no discrimination. it is just a media issue." Since that time. the Soviet Union has come under new leadership. It is difficult to anticipate specific changes in Soviet policy as a result of the new leadership.
