Mr. Speaker. the Congress of the United States needs to deal with immigration reformnot this summer. not next year. but now. As chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. I would like it to be known that we are ready to participate constructively and positively In the debate. We will not be obstructionists. instead. we will have a comprehensive and compassionate immigration bill of our own. We are ready. Mr. Speaker. to work with the gentleman from NewJersey . the gentleman from Kentucky . and the gentleman from New York . and the gentleman from California [Mr. LUNGREb1 in developing a compassionate and sound immigration policy. Although we will have differences with these gentlemen. let it be said that those of us of Hispanic descent in Congress will not hold up the process. We are ready now for a debate. and the American people are ready for a sensible immigration policy.
