Mr. Speaker. I commend Chairman ANNUNZIO for his efforts to bring this bill to the House floor today to establish a commemorative coin program to help fund the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. an immigration facility which has a long. and of course. a very significant history. No one here today would dispute the fact that this is a worthwhile project. For many years now. the Statue of Liberty has stood as a beacon of freedom of individual liberty welcoming those who seek refuge from tyranny and injustice. and reminding us all of the ideals upon which this country rests.
