In addition. a solution must be found to the question of what is to be done with the thousands of Turkish colonizers who have been brought from Turkey and settled in the properties of the GreekCypriots who were forced out by the invading Turkish forces in 1974. Regarding the important issue of territory. something must be done about the unnecessarily large area now being administered by the TurkishCypriot community. A solution to this issue will help to accommodate the return of GreekCypriot refugees to their properties and also reflect more fairly the respective size of the two Cypriot communities. Although much progress was expected at the recent highlevel talks. very little was actually accomplished. Although it is futile to try to point the finger at who was responsible for the impasse in the talks. the involved parties should be perfectly clear about the ground rules for future negotiations.
