Mr. Shapiro. along with his wife. Leah. and their two children. have sought to emigrate to Israel since 1977. They have been repeatedly denied for various absurd reasons. including the fact that Mr. Shapiro had access to classified materials which were 7 years out of date. and because his emigration "is against the interests of the U.S.S.R." As a result of their seeking to emigrate Leah Shapiro has been fired from her job and denied subsequent employment and Lev was attacked by the media as a Zionist conspirator. They have been told by an emigration official that the decision to deny them emigration visas is final. Second. there is the case of Iosif Radomyslsky. who has been denied employment in his mechanical engineering profession since he applied to emigrate to Israel in 1979. His application to emigrate was denied on the alleged grounds of "secrecy." another vague term used by the Soviets. when there is. in fact. no grounds for denial.
