Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990005101

The situation is especially bleak in Leningrad. where only days after I met with Yevegeny Lein he was interrogated and beaten by the KGB. He holds a Ph. D. in computer science but must work as a stoker in a bathhouse. I call on my colleagues to work toward reopening the emigration for Soviet Jews and others who wish to be reunited with family in other parts of the world. Let us continue our efforts on the many individual cases of ref useniks and others whose lives have been utterly interrupted. and let us press for the inclusion in every international fora with the Soviets the topic of Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union.*
