This is a rather menial job for engineers. The Soviets. however. are notorious for assigning menial Jobs to refusniks. The Paritskys work 24hour shifts and get a 72hour break. The Paritskys continue to wait for the day when they will be allowed to emigrate to Israel. Only then will Aleksandrs freedom be complete and his familys dreams fulfilled. The Paritsky story is just one of too many such ordeals occurring across the Soviet Union. Another example is that of the plight of Aleksandr Klomyansky as related by the columnist Anthony Lewis.
