The Israel which I saw is an Israel of democracy. This great democratic nation is one of which we may be proud. a brotherhood in which we should be proud to render our assistance. It does not surprise me that many Soviet Jews hope to someday emigrate to Israel. where they can freely practice their traditional lifestyles. Howev. er. even if we surmise that what Soviet Jewish communities want is to reestablish and renovate their oppressed culture. then why should they not be allowed that right? Why should they not be allowed to exercise the right to stay and live the way they want. to exist as a cultural entity.
