Tragically. the Soviet Union has escalated its paranoid religious persecution while maintaining its equally paranoid emigration restrictions against those who wish to escape this persecution. Vhile the film could have ominous sequences for Soviet Jewry in genI. the individual Jews named and tured will surely suffer increased rassment and alienation from Soviet thoritles as well as fellow citizens. t only must these men and women ctice their religion in secrecy and fer the pains of separation from nily members. they must also live th the fear of recrimination and use for being traitors and mercenar)espite the burdens and dangers at characterize the lives of Soviet ws. the Jewish community in the viet Union has remained committed their religion and their heritage. iey will not be cowed into silence out or submission to the religious d cultural discrimination which is so viously wrong. Most of us will never face the kind daily challenges that these men and men face.
