Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990004591

Is creating linguistic ghettos. And ghettos are barriers between peoples. barriers. both physical and emotional. which nurture suspicion. fear. and intolerance. Because of our pride and commitment both to our ethnic languages and to the English language which we adopted as immigrants to the United States. the Indochinese Coalition officially endorses the English Language Amendment. So who Is really racist and xenophobic? The person striving to help the nonEnglish speaker enter the American mainstream as quickly as possible? Or the socalled "leader" who seeks to maintain his influence with an ethnic group by insuring that they remain dependent on a minority language?
