I rise in support of this legislation which would grant extended voluntary departure status to the many Salvadorans who have sought sanctuary in this country. and I ask unanimous consent that I be added as a cosponsor of this bill. I would first like to commend the Senator from Arizona. Senator DECONCINI. for his continuing efforts to bring this issue to the attention of the Senate. I have Joined with the Senator from Arizona on several occasions in the past to express my support for the granting of refugee status for the displaced Salvadorans. In September 1983. I cosponsored a sense of the Congress resolution to this effect.
