Toys laden with mines. which are designed for only one purposeto maim innocent childrenare causing massive and untreatable wounds in hundreds of Afghan children. the use of chemical weapons. including poison gases. against innocent villagers for the sole purpose of terrorizing the unsuspecting populace. high altitude carpet bombings. these are all symbols of Soviet power in their violent campaign in Afghanistan. There is evidence from numerous sources which. although virtually denied by the media. suggeQts that over onethird of Afghanis now live in either Iran or Pakistan. We must thank the Pakistanis for their efforts on behalf of these refugees. and we must urge that other International efforts also be undertaken or bolstered in the name of these unfortunate people. There is further evidence that the Soviets are attempting to starve the Afghan people into submission. Such acts are morally outrageous. who can Justify such repulsive actions?
