Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980271367

Seven months later. the Soviet Government has yet to even acknowledge our plea. Soviet Jews constitute the most visible target of Soviet Internal repression. They are often denied basic human rights of which the right to emigrate is only one. Recent reports also indicate an increased campaign by Soviet officials to stamp out Jewish culture. religion. and education in the Soviet Union. The Helsinki accord has served as a tremendous source of encouragement and inspiration to the refuseniks. Al. though the pleadings of these brave people have not been met. their appeals will not be silenced. Today. and every day.
