I would like to Join with my col. leagues in support of a piece of legislation that failed to make it to the Senate floor this year. but which deserves this bodys careful consideration immediately upon our return in 1985. I am referring to S. 2131. a bill to provide for Presidential and congressional review of conditions in El Salvador and other countries. and to suspend deportation of Salvadorans pending the outcome of that study. Over the years. we have granted a similar temporary halt of deportations for nationals from 15 countries. in. cluding Afghanistan. Cambodia. Chile.
