Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980260531

The Soviet Government must understand that we will not forget the cause of the Soviet Jews and will continue to press this matter of basic justice at every available opportunity. It is my sincere hope that when President Reagan meets with Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko later this week. they will discuss this issue of paramount importance. Mr. Speaker. I believe we must join together in calling upon the Soviet Government to abide by international human rights agreements which recognize freedom of religion. repatriation to ones homeland reunification of families. and the right to emigrate. Truly. these are basic human rights worth speaking out for again and again.*
