A particular case I have personally followed out of the thousands that are reported to us every year. involves an individual named Abba Taratuta and his family who live in Moscow. His wife studied English and worked as a translator of scientific articles published in the West. Abba worked as a mathematician and expert in radio astronomy. when both resigned their positions and applied for an emigrant visa in May of 1973. After three months they were refused on grounds of possessing secret information valuable to the government. Since then they have been forced to subsist on lowpaying jobs. without prospects and subject to frequent personal harassment.
