Seattle. Los Angeles. and Chicago. Her cheerfulness and sense of humor were an inspiration to all of those she helped. Mother Cabrini became ill and died in 1917. The love and hope she brought to so many immigrants prompted the Vatican to declare her life an heroic one. and she was canonized on July 7. 1946. The Mother Cabrini Award. which this year honors Mr. Irv Kupcinet. SunTimes columnist. and Mr. Stephen Ruff. Sr.. Chicago attorney. reminds us that service to others is the highest calling. Our service to others is rendered in the way we live our lives each day. regardless of what work we have chosen.
