Mr. Speaker. I rise in support of this resolution which expresses congressional concern over the welfare of Ethiopian Jews and calls on the relevant foreign governments to allow Ethiopian Jews to emigrate freely. As a cosponsor of this resolution I urge all of my colleagues to support this measure as a display of our continued support for and solidarity with both the Falasha community in Israel and those Jews still in Ethiopia. The Jewish community of Ethiopia is one that has survived for over 2.000 years. It has persevered despite centuries of numerous conflicts. tribal wars. persecution and oppression. and it continues to survive in a land of stark poverty and rampant disease.
