Speech #980250334

Monsignor Baroni was a man of deep compassion and great courage. and I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to work with him and to be touched by his inspirational actions as a spokesman for the urban bluecollar working family. for ethnic groups. for minorities. and for the poor. The monsignor was the creator and motivator of a vast network of church. civil rights. community. and political groups. concerned with helping the innercity poor. and he will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on October 30. 1930. in Acosta. PA. the son of Italian immigrants. Monsignor Baroni. whose father worked in the coal mines for almost 50 years. attended the seminary at Mount St. Marys College. and was ordained in 1956.
