Mr. Chairman. I rise in support of H.R. 11. the Education Amendments of 1984. The bill reauthorizes 11 education programs that are vital to the Nations commitment to promoting equity and improving quality in education. H.R. 11 extends 10 programs. including bilingual education. import aid. immigrant education. womens educational equity. asbestos school hazard detection and control. and Indian education. The Adult Education Program would be authorized through fiscal year 1987 and the remaining programs would be reauthorized through fiscal year 1989. I believe that these education programs could be jeopardized if reauthorization is delayed until. 1985. Thus. I firmly urge my colleagues to favorably support H.R. 11.
