Mr. Speaker. on July 13. the Immigration and Naturalization Service will honor Vernice Lohman on her retirement after 30 years of Federal service and a lifetime of selfless. publicminded citizenship. Vernice was born in 1924 at the French Hospital in Los Angeles. which is currently a home for the elderly in the heart of Chinatown. She moved to San Fernando Valley where she graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1942. Hoping to become a member of Jackie Cochrans Womens Air Transport Group. she joined the Navy in 1943. The group disbanded shortly after she had begun training and. undeterred by this frustration. she undertook flight training at Independence.
