Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980219545

Mr. Chairman. I move to strike -the requisite number of words. Mr. Chairman. before the House takes its final vote on this farreaching immigration reform legislation. I would like to make some general remarks about my support for this bill. The problem of illegal immigration has been recognized for decades. Potential solutions have been studied. debated. and argued for years as the problem has grown worse with no action. I realize that the bill before us is not perfect. But it is the product of more than 10 years of work on this issue and as far as I can tell no one has come forward with a better answer.
