Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980219351

And the quality of life that we know today would be gone for our children. our grandchildren. and all generations to come. There is a flood coming. There are problems in our hemisphere. and that flood is going to be of refugees who are flocking to the United States. I think it is imperative for the future of the United States that we make the strongest pronouncement that we can in this immigration bill. that we make the pronouncement that we have an immigration policy in this country. that it is one that is being strengthened. one that is going to be enforced. and one for which there are going to be no exceptions. This is the way that we must go. It has nothing to do with the deserving status of those that I am talking about because they are indeed deserving.
