I agree with the gentleman and I applaud him for offering this type of an amendment. This is a Federal offense. the violation of immigration law is a Federal offense. and certainly your local law enforcement officers are not equipped to enforce immigration laws. If you give this power to just any local law enforcement agency. deputy sheriff. a deputy constable. someone who knows absolutely nothing. give him that authority to stop anyone on the street for the sole purpose of determining to his own satisfaction that that person is here legally is bad policy. And certainly if there is anything in this bill that even hints of giving that authority to these people. should not be in this bill. and your amendment should be adopted.
