Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980212057

Mr. Chairman. I move to strike the requisite number of words. Mr. Chairman. one of the most difficult things in dealing with this issue is to get the Members of the House dealing with the facts and dealing with what is in front of them instead of dealing with strawmen. I think one of the reasons we have not had comprehensive reform in the area of immigration for 32 years is precisely because this is a difficult issue. It is very emotional. It is tough enough to deal with the issue that we have in front of us. It is much more difficult to deal with those things that are not in the bill that it is suggested are in the bill.
