Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980210674

What is a foreigner to someone is not necessarily a foreigner to someone else. But I am concerned about this legislation because I heard from proponents of this legislation that we must control our borders. we must secure our borders for national defense purposes. From whom? From some peon from El Salvador? A little Indian from Guanajuato. Mexico. some Vietnamese that left on a boat. an African student that came on a student visa from Nigeria and stayed afterward. some Czech. or Slovak. or Croat who came and stayed? Look at who is selling military secrets. Look at who is trying to undermine the fiber of this country.
Identified stereotypes
Implies that immigrants from El Salvador, Mexico, Vietnam, Nigeria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Croatia are not threats, contrasting them with those who sell military secrets.
