Mr. Speaker. I rise today in support of the rule for H.R. 1510. the SimpsonMazzoli immigration reform bill. The United States desperately needs an immigration policy based on the realities of today. For the better part of the last decade our only policy has been one of neglect. In that time we have completely lost control over our bordersone of the basic qualifications for any independent nation. This is an issue of great importance to my part of the country and yet there are still those who fail to realize this. After 6 months of political gamesmanship by the House leadership we are finally being allowed an opportunity to debate this issue.
