Mr. Speaker. I rise today to oppose the rule on the Mazzoli bill. H.R. 1510. We all acknowledge the need for immigration reform. that is not the issue before us. The immigration legislation to be considered is extremely complex: It includes crucial provisions of amnesty. It addresses the problem of unlawful employment of undocumented workers. but does so in a way which may jeopardize employment for all Americans of Hispanic origin. There are serious problems with bringing the bill up at this time. First. it is being brought up prior to any hearings on an alternative that deserves full consideration.
