I cannot accept arguments that there has been insufficient time to develop or discuss alternatives. There has been ample time for that. Now is the time to vote on the merits of immigration reform. We understand the concerns that have been expressed about certain portions of the bill. I will tell my colleagues what I told the members and witnesses at the subcommittee: If there are problems with the implementation of an Immigration reform bill. I and others will be willing to work for legislation that will correct them after we know the extent and the shape of those problems.
