I feel that Americans ought not to lose sight of longstanding principles we hold dear. America has always and should continue to be a guiding beacon to the world. We should not and cannot simply close our doors and deport all illegals. Amnesty is an essential part of overall immigration reform. SimpsonMazzoli strikes a reasonable compromise in the issue of amnesty by recognizing that many illegal aliens have lived in and contributed to growth of our country over a period of years. A massive deportation effort is not feasible due to the legal. financial. and logistical impossibilities of such an undertaking. More importantly. humanitarian concerns should simply preclude such a draconian solution. Finally.
