Then after leaving the Maryknoll Order. she remained in Nicaragua and went to work for the Protestant social services. In 1974 she married Edgad Macias. who later became Vice Minister of Labor for the Sandinista regime. When she and her husband became the subject of an intensive defamation campaign by the Sandinistas and when they received death threats. they fled Nicaragua for the United States. Mrs. Macias testified before this White House group. She indicated that she was a refugee. one of thousands who have left Nicaragua over the last 4 years. Her husband. she pointed out. was a Nicaraguan. And she said that they left Nicaragua because of threats basically to eliminate her husband.
