Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980193878

Anatole Shchranskys terms has come halfway and under normal Soviet custom he should have been released. He was not. Anatole Shchransky continues to serve a prison sentence for nothing more than hoping some day to be free and hoping some day to be able to express his own thoughts with the kind of freedoms that we have in this country. We have signed letter after letter after letter calling on the Soviet Union to allow Soviet Jews to emigrate. We have had very little reponse. in fact. virtually no response from the Soviet Union on that accord. Now we are witnessing another brutal form of treatment in the Soviet Union.
