Congress. the problem of Cyprus has been on my mind for quite some time now. In 1977. as a Senator in the Pennsylvania Legislature. I introduced a resolution asking the President and Congress to exert their best efforts to resolving the crisis in Cyprus. to restore the 200.000 suffering Cypriot refugees to their homes. and to restore to the people of Cyprus the right of selfdetermination. The resolution also urged them to give generous American support to the Cypriot refugees. I would never have dreamed then that the terrible situation in Cyprus would have been magnified today by the attempted legitimization of this Turkish Cypriot annexation. Mr.
