The Jewish Community Relations Council of St. Louis. in conjunction with the National Conference on Soviet Jewry and the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council. representing 113 community relations agencies throughout the country. urges that the American government takes every opportunity to act on behalf of five Soviet Jewish "refuseniks." These five cases reflect the ongoing harassment by the Soviet government of members of the Jewish community. Our concern for them and for their right to decent treatment and the right to emigration is ongoing. The first case is that of former Prisoner of Conscience Grigory Qoldshtein. a physicist from Tbilisi. who is accused of "taking advantage of his position" at the Central Bureau of Statistics. and may face a new. three to five year prison term. He has been informed that his file was transferred to a local prosecutor.
