Mr. Speaker. it is an honor for me. Mr. Speaker. to have requested this annual special order to commemorate the approaching 163d anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. And. while this day has a special meaning for methe son of Greek immigrantsand other GreekAmericans. this day also has become a day of celebration for all in the free world. marking as it does the rebirth of the nation known as the Mother of Democracy. This Sunday. March 25. is the actual day that the Greeks declared their independence from the Turkish Empire. This historic date. however. was not chosen at random.
