I also think of A. E. Levin. whom I met on my trip to the Soviet Union last August. Mr. Levin has been fired from the Institute of Philosophy of the U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences in January 1981. yet he is not allowed to hold another job and so can be expelled from Moscow at any time. His scholarly activity has been all but banned. and he is not given the kind of medical care he needs for his grave eye disease. On top of this. he has been three times refused permission to emigrate. Politics aside. our hearts go out to Mrs. Staskevich.
