Sadly. since October 14 of last year. we have another witness. On that day. a Soviet court convicted Dr. Josef Begun of producing and distributing antiSoviet literature and sentenced him to 7 years in prison and 5 years of internal exile. Josef Beguns principal offenses were his desire to emigrate to Israel and to practice his religion. He studied the cultural history of the Jewish people and he gave lessons in Hebrew. Through their actions. the Government and the courts of the U.S.S.R. have once more shown their contempt for the concept of human rights. and their disdain for world opinion.
