Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980166563

It is important that we reaffirm our commitment to this basic principle of human rights at this critical time for Soviet Jews. I call upon each of you to give serious thought to this continuing inhumane treatment of the Soviet Jews. and to join with me and the many others who are participating in todays observance. in calling upon General Secretary Konstantin U. Chernenko to heed our cries for help. and to allow those people within the Soviet Union. who wish to do so. to emigrate to some other country. where they will be allowed to live in peace and freedom. Our voices will continue to ring out for the oppressed people wherever they may be. and I pray that our voices are heard today by Mr. Chernenko.e
